9 Day Morocco Beauty: Casablanca to Chefchaouen & Imperial Cities

Overview

A cultural-focus alternative to the Sahara-heavy tours — this 9-day private journey concentrates on Morocco’s extraordinary north, visiting Casablanca, Rabat, Asilah, Tangier, Chefchaouen, Meknès, Volubilis, and Fez before returning south through the Middle Atlas and Marrakech to Casablanca. It is ideal for travellers who prioritise history, architecture, and Berber culture over desert adventures, and for those who want to discover Morocco’s lesser-known northern treasures alongside its more famous landmarks.

Day 1 — Casablanca › Rabat › Asilah

Hassan II Mosque visit. Rabat: Hassan Tower, Mohammed V Mausoleum, Kasbah des Oudayas, and Chellah necropolis. Evening drive to Asilah — the most beautiful small town on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, its whitewashed ramparts draped in bougainvillea and its medina walls transformed each August into a gallery of international murals. Overnight Asilah.

Day 2 — Asilah › Tangier › Chefchaouen

Morning walk along Asilah‘s clifftop ramparts above the crashing Atlantic. Brief stop in Tangier: the Kasbah quarter with its panoramic terrace over the Strait of Gibraltar (on a clear day, Spain is visible 14 km away), the American Legation Museum, and the medina’s famous Petit Socco square. Drive southeast into the Rif Mountains, arriving Chefchaouen by afternoon. Plaza Uta el-Hammam and first medina walk. Overnight riad.

Days 3–4 — Chefchaouen: Two Full Days

Day 3: Guided medina walk: blue alleyways, kasbah museum, dyers’ quarter, Ras el-Maa waterfall, artisan workshops (weaving, pottery, traditional jewellery). Optional cooking class — Rif Mountain recipes with a local family.

Day 4: Morning hike to the Spanish Mosque viewpoint above the city. Afternoon at leisure — photography, shopping (local blankets, argan soaps, hand-painted ceramics), and exploring the quieter residential quarters of the medina at your own pace. Overnight Chefchaouen.

Day 5 — Chefchaouen › Meknès › Volubilis › Fez

Meknès: Bab Mansour gate, Heri es-Souani granaries, Moulay Ismail Mausoleum, Place el-Hedim. Volubilis Roman ruins: triumphal arch, mosaic floors, Capitol. Arrival Fez. Overnight riad.

Day 6 — Fez Medina Guided Tour

Expert local guide: Chouara Tanneries, Bou Inania Madrasa, al-Qarawiyyin quarter, Attarine Madrasa, Nejjarine Fondouk, Jewish Mellah, Fez Pottery Cooperative. Overnight Fez.

Day 7 — Fez › Ifrane › Azrou › Middle Atlas › Beni Mellal › Marrakech

Ifrane: the famous stone lion sculpture, oak and cedar forests, the ski resort town at 1,650 m. Azrou: cedar forest walk with Barbary macaques. The high Middle Atlas road through the Aït Benhaddou plateau to Beni Mellal at the foot of the Atlas, then west through the Haouz plain to Marrakech. Overnight riad.

Day 8 — Marrakech Full Guided Day

Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs. Souk quarter: copper lanterns, cedar woodwork, natural-dye textiles, hand-stitched babouche. Majorelle Garden and Berber Museum. Evening Jemaa el-Fna. Overnight Marrakech.

Day 9 — Marrakech › Casablanca Airport

Scenic morning drive north via Settat to Casablanca airport or city hotel drop-off.
