Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 — Tangier › Tétouan › Chefchaouen Medina Walk

Your Morocco Nomad Travels driver meets you at Tangier port or your hotel early in the morning. The scenic coastal road south passes through Tétouan, a UNESCO-listed medina city and former capital of Spanish Morocco, where white Andalusian architecture lines the historic town centre. You can make a brief stop to admire the Royal Palace square and the medina gate before continuing into the Rif Mountains.

Arriving in Chefchaouen after approximately 90 minutes, you check into your riad and freshen up before meeting your local guide. The afternoon walking tour begins at the Plaza Uta el-Hammam — the beating heart of the medina, shaded by orange trees and overlooked by an ancient kasbah. From here your guide leads you deep into the photogenic blue-washed lanes, past dyers hanging freshly dyed wool, weavers at wooden looms, and small zaouias fragrant with incense. A short climb beyond the medina walls brings you to the Ras el-Maa waterfall, where women traditionally wash textiles in the crystal-clear mountain stream and local children cool off in the pools below. The evening is yours to explore the atmospheric restaurants around the main square.

Day 2 — Cooking Class › Spanish Mosque Hike › Return to Tangier

After a leisurely riad breakfast, the morning is devoted to a hands-on Moroccan cooking class hosted by a local family. You’ll learn to prepare traditional Rif dishes — perhaps a slow-cooked lamb tagine with preserved lemons, or a fragrant harira soup — using market-fresh ingredients and age-old techniques. The class culminates in a shared meal around a low table.

After lunch, take the winding path up to the Spanish Mosque, perched on the hillside above town, for panoramic views over the blue-domed rooftops, the valley below, and the craggy Rif peaks stretching into the distance. This viewpoint is particularly magical in the late afternoon light. Your driver then returns you to Tangier, arriving by early evening.
